"The Leader Is Burning/Yr Story" 7" Wow, this is where it all started back in 1989 (it was supposed to come out in 1988 but I couldn't get the money together in time). This was Noiseville #1. Austin Texas' Pocket Fishrmen. A great single. Now I remember back in the 90's somewhere, Steve Albini wrote a letter into Forced Exposure slamming labels who made limited edition singles, and Noiseville was first on his list. Well Mr. Albini, I made 2000 copies of this single thinking it would be enough to fill the demand. Well, it was too many. After about 6 years it still didn't sell out. So pardon me if I made smaller editions after that. So yes, 2000 were made, 4 different color covers, red, blue, green and yellow. They were photocopy printed and most of them I hand glued to make them covers, the last 400 or so I just did a fold over thing cause I was losing my friggin mind. This release was a favorite of legendary BBC DJ JOHN PEEL. He loved it. I remember getting postcards from him back then saying how much he loved it. I thought it was a joke. After getting no reply he would write again, and again. When he finally wrote and said "This is isn't a joke, I really love that record", I finally believed it. A few years later I was sitting in on one of his shows when I was in London for the first time, and it was amazing. (P.S. If anyone has a recording of me on his show, I will pay DEARLY for a copy...PLEASE!!!!) If it were not for the support from John Peel, the label would have folded much sooner. The on air support he gave Noiseville was amazing. He was truely one in a billion and will never be forgotten. Then in 2005 I got a phone call from a UK TV Production team who was doing a documentary called "JOHN PEEL'S RECORD CASE." Basically the case held the records that Peel brought to EVERY one of his radio shows. And low and behold, in the case was the Pocket Fishrmen 7". Wow. They were calling to get permission to use the music and cover in the documentary. I said sure, and then I wet myself. They sent me a copy of the documentary and it was a religious experience for me. Years of losing money, never making the "bigtime" (Maybe I should be thankful I missed that) , and just plain never getting respect from doing the label finally paid off. It was all worth it for me. Now if it was an Unholy Swill record in there, I would have keeled over. I have a few copies of the original 7" around. These are NOT reprints, these are the originals. Not many left, and damn it is a great record. |
